At St. John’s, we want to build a community of believers that relate meaningfully to one another and with the realities of our neighborhood. A number of groups are available as a means to foster this community building. These small groups are intended to be life-sharing environments where we can also identify gifts in one another and encourage the growth of our gifts.
The Home Scripture study is an intensive exploration of Scripture with the goal of deepening our commitment to Christ, to one another, and to the mission of Christ in the world. Each year we focus on one portion of the Bible, often one of the shorter Epistles (last year was “Episodes from the Gospel of Mark”). In addition to studying the passage each week, we also pray for one another and enjoy a brief time of fellowship after. Hosted by Professor John and Terry Hare and co-led by other St. John’s members, we gather every other Sunday night from 7:00-8:30 p.m., beginning on September 13th, usually at 15 Everit Street, New Haven.
This year, we are studying the Epistle to the Colossians.
September 16: Introductions (including reading the entire epistle); Colossians 1:1-8
September 30: Colossians 1:9-20
October 14: Colossians 1:21-29
October 28: Colossians 2:1-7
November 11: Colossians 2:8-15
December 2: Colossians 2:16-23
